The Year of Magical Thinking, a new production of Claudio Monteverdi&#8217;s opera combined with text by the renowned US writer Joan Didion, who died in 2021. The premiere is celebrated as part of the second edition of the &#8220;Ja Mai&#8221; Festival for early and contemporary music theatre, newly founded by the Bavarian State Opera. Responsible for the scenic realisation is the multiple award-winning drama director Christopher R\u00fcping, who directs an opera for the first time at the festival.
