While retaining the opera’s original setting in the Swiss Alps, Villazón uses its somnambulant plot to explore the emotional and psychological valleys of the mind. Rolando Villazón performs with the Bruckner Orchestra Linz in front of the unique backdrop of the salt pyramids of Saline Ebensee. Two concerts on 5 and 6 July will feature the most beautiful melodies from the opera repertoire as well as chanson hits. Classical music is on an equal footing with musicals, compositions by Leonard Bernstein and Richard Wagner alongside those by Édith Piaf. The concert will also be broadcast on ORF III.
