Serena Sáenz, Gaëlle Arquez, Rolando Villazón: PAAX Festival in Mexico

Tenor Rolando Villazón, soprano Serena Sáenz, and mezzo-soprano Gaëlle Arquez appear at the PAAX Festival in Mexico, performing with The Impossible Orchestra and the Madrid Community Orchestra and Choir under the baton of Alondra de la Parra. On July 23, Rolando Villazón and Serena Sáenz present ¡Viva la Zarzuela!, a concert celebrating the colour and passion of Spain’s beloved zarzuela tradition. On July 24, Serena Sáenz and Gaëlle Arquez perform Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, “Resurrection.” On July 26, Gaëlle Arquez stars as Carmen in a semi-staged performance of Bizet’s opera with the adapted title @Carmen. The Reel Story, alongside Arturo Chacón-Cruz as Don José. On July 30, Serena Sáenz and Gaëlle Arquez join Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, once again under the direction of Alondra de la Parra. All performances take place in the Diego Hall.

Nadezhda Karyazina and Jonah Hoskins make their house debut at the Deutsche Oper Berlin in Rolando Villazón’s new production of L'Italiana in Algeri, premiering on March 8, 2026. Karyazina and Hoskins portray the reunited lovers Lindoro and Isabella respectively, alongside Tommaso Barea as Mustafa. The new production of Rossini’s bel canto masterpiece is set in an unnamed location in Latin America and features two competing Mexican-style wrestling clubs. Further performances take place on March 11, 14, 20, 28 and April 2.
