Biography

The rising lyric soprano Athanasia Zöhrer “convinces with limitless vocal power, a securely guided soprano voice, [and] enormous musicality” (Das Opernglas, 2023). She has already appeared as a soloist at some of Europe’s most renowned opera houses, including the Semperoper Dresden, the Hamburg State Opera, Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf, Leipzig Opera, Opéra National de Montpellier, and the State Opera Hanover.

In the 2025–2026 season, Athanasia Zöhrer is a permanent ensemble member of the Leipzig Opera, where she presents the breadth of her core repertoire alongside a highly anticipated role debut. She opens her season with her debut as Fiordiligi in a new production of Mozart’s Così fan tutte. She can also be heard as Gilda (Rigoletto), Mimì (La Bohème), and Violetta (La Traviata).

Athanasia Zöhrer: La traviata in Chemnitz

Soprano Athanasia Zöhrer will debut as Violetta Valéry in Verdi’s La traviata at Theater Chemnitz. The new production, directed by Anja Kühnhold, premieres on May 31, 2025, with additional performances on June 6 and 11. Benjamin Reiners conducts the Robert Schumann Philharmonic Orchestra.

Athanasia Zöhrer: Mitridate in Lausanne

Soprano Athanasia Zöhrer takes on the role of Sifare in Mozart’s early masterpiece Mitridate at Opéra de Lausanne. She will be joined by tenor Paolo Fanale in the title role and Lauranne Oliva as Aspasia. This new production, directed by Emmanuelle Bastet, promises a fresh take on Mozart’s rarely performed opera, with conductor Andreas Spering leading the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne. Performances are scheduled for February 23, 25, 28, and March 2, 2025.
