Mojca Erdmann: Mahler: Rückert Songs & String Quartets in Berlin

04 Dec 2024

Felix Mendelssohn felt “the greatest emptiness and desert in his head and heart” in 1847 after the sudden death of his sister Fanny, which he dealt with artistically in his F minor string quartet – it was to be his last quartet before he too died a few months later. Together with Mojca Erdmann, the Staatskapelle Berlin string quartet juxtaposes this instrumental requiem with Gustav Mahler’s Rückert songs, which revolve around themes of love and farewell. The 18-year-old Franz Schubert’s G minor quartet will also be performed.
