Biography

Praised by critics and loved by audiences for her beauty of tone and impeccable artistry, soprano Mojca Erdmann is a star in the international music scene. She is known for her broad repertoire – ranging from baroque to contemporary music – which she performs in major opera houses, festivals, and concert halls worldwide.

In the 2024/25 season, Mojca Erdmann demonstrates her versatility on the concert stage. In the Pierre Boulez Saal, the soprano performs Arnold Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire and Chamber Symphony No. 1 together with the Boulez Ensemble and under the direction of Zubin Mehta to mark the 150th anniversary of the composer’s birth. On the concert stage of the Arena di Verona, Erdmann sings Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 under the direction of Wolfram Christ before returning to the Pierre Boulez Saal. Here she sings Gustav Mahler’s Rückert-Lieder in the arrangement by Philip Hefti. With conductor Adam Fischer, Mojca Erdmann makes her debut in the role of Elsa in a concert version of Wagner’s Lohengrin at the Konzerthaus Copenhagen. After that, Erdmann performs a recital with Malcolm Martineau in Sociedad Filarmónica de Bilbao before traveling to Palermo’s Teatro Politeama, where she sings Bach’s St. John Passion under the direction of Lothar Koenigs. The soprano ends her season with concerts at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg: together with the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra and under the direction of Kent Nagano, she sings the world premiere of Alex Nante’s symphony Anahata.

Mojca Erdmann: Debut as Elsa in Lohengrin at Konzerthaus Copenhagen

Mojсa Erdmann makes her debut as Elsa in a concert version of Wagner's opera Lohengrin at the Konzerthaus Copenhagen. The first part of the opera's third act, known as the scene in the bride's room between Elsa and Lohengrin, contains some of Wagner's most intimate and exquisite music. The role of Lohengrin will be sung by the Hungarian tenor Szabolcs Brickner. Conductor Adam Fischer.

Mojca Erdmann: Mahler: Rückert Songs & String Quartets in Berlin

Felix Mendelssohn felt "the greatest emptiness and desert in his head and heart" in 1847 after the sudden death of his sister Fanny, which he dealt with artistically in his F minor string quartet - it was to be his last quartet before he too died a few months later. Together with Mojca Erdmann, the Staatskapelle Berlin string quartet juxtaposes this instrumental requiem with Gustav Mahler's Rückert songs, which revolve around themes of love and farewell. The 18-year-old Franz Schubert's G minor quartet will also be performed.

Mojca Erdmann: Schoenberg’s 150th Birthday Celebration in Pierre Boulez Saal

Mojca Erdmann returns to Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin on September 13, 2024. The soprano joins the Boulez Ensemble under the baton of Zubin Mehta for a program commemorating the 150th anniversary of Arnold Schoenberg's birth. The concert features Schoenberg's Chamber Symphony for 15 Solo Instruments Op. 9 and Pierrot lunaire Op. 21, with Erdmann as the vocal soloist in the latter work.
