On October 24, Cameron Shahbazi joins the Macao Orchestra for a programme celebrating the vocal and orchestral splendour of the Baroque at the Cathedral in Macao. Under the baton of renowned Baroque specialist Laurence Cummings, Shahbazi performs works by Vivaldi, Bach and Handel. The programme includes Vivaldi’s Stabat Mater and the aria “Gelido in ogni vena” from Farnace, selections from Bach’s cantata Vergnügte Ruh, beliebte Seelenlust, and arias from Handel’s Rodelinda.

Nadezhda Karyazina makes her house and role debut at the Wiener Staatsoper this October as La Musica, La Speranza and Eco in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo, alongside Rolando Villazón in the title role. They are joined by Florina Ilie as Euridice, Margaret Plummer as Messaggera/Proserpina, Matheus França as Plutone and Wolfgang Bankl as Caronte. Jonah Hoskins joins The Philadelphia Orchestra as tenor soloist in Carl Orff’s Carmina burana at Marian Anderson Hall in Philadelphia. Under the baton of Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Hoskins performs alongside soprano Janai Brugger and baritone Will Liverman, together with the Philadelphia Symphonic Choir, Commonwealth Youth Choir, Philadelphia Boys Choir, and Philadelphia Girls Choir. Jonah Hoskins returns to the Metropolitan Opera as Bevins in the world premiere of Missy Mazzoli’s Lincoln in the Bardo, with a libretto by Royce Vavrek based on George Saunders’s Booker Prize–winning novel. Directed by Lileana Blain-Cruz, the new production features Peter Mattei as Lincoln, Christine Goerke as the Reverend, Anthony Roth Costanzo as Miss Elise Traynor, Ryan McKinny as Vollman, Stephanie Blythe as Mrs. Baron, Janai Brugger as Mrs. Francis Hodge, Joshua Blue as Thomas Havens, and Craig Colclough as Mr. Baron. Matthias Goerne appears at Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires for a recital dedicated to Schubert’s Winterreise, as part of the theatre’s Grandes Intérpretes series. Joined by Cuban-Finnish pianist Anton Mejias, Goerne performs Schubert’s complete cycle of 24 songs, composed in 1827. From the opening Gute Nacht to the haunting final song Der Leiermann, Winterreise traces a solitary journey through lost love, memory and despair. The recital takes place on October 17 at the Teatro Colón.
