Jonah Hoskins returns to the Metropolitan Opera as Bevins in the world premiere of Missy Mazzoli’s Lincoln in the Bardo, with a libretto by Royce Vavrek based on George Saunders’s Booker Prize–winning novel. Directed by Lileana Blain-Cruz, the new production features Peter Mattei as Lincoln, Christine Goerke as the Reverend, Anthony Roth Costanzo as Miss Elise Traynor, Ryan McKinny as Vollman, Stephanie Blythe as Mrs. Baron, Janai Brugger as Mrs. Francis Hodge, Joshua Blue as Thomas Havens, and Craig Colclough as Mr. Baron. Everett Sobers and Michael Hurst share the role of Willie Lincoln. Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts, with Steven Osgood leading the performances on 31 October and 14 November.

Cameron Shahbazi and Svetlina Stoyanova join the China Philharmonic Orchestra for a semi-staged performance of Handel’s Giulio Cesare at the 29th Beijing Music Festival. Shahbazi takes on the role of Tolomeo, with Stoyanova as Sesto alongside Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen in the title role. Matthias Goerne appears at Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires for a recital dedicated to Schubert’s Winterreise, as part of the theatre’s Grandes Intérpretes series. Joined by Cuban-Finnish pianist Anton Mejias, Goerne performs Schubert’s complete cycle of 24 songs, composed in 1827. From the opening Gute Nacht to the haunting final song Der Leiermann, Winterreise traces a solitary journey through lost love, memory and despair. The recital takes place on October 17 at the Teatro Colón.
