Nadezhda Karyazina: “Newcomer of the Year” at the OPER! Awards
Mezzo-soprano Nadezhda Karyazina has been named “Newcomer of the Year” at the prestigious OPER! Awards, Germany’s only international opera prize, presented annually to outstanding artists of the international opera scene. This year’s ceremony took place at the Theater Regensburg.
Karyazina’s award follows a remarkable season. At the Salzburg Easter Festival, she made a powerful impression as Marfa in Mussorgsky’s Khovanshchina, bringing striking authority and vocal brilliance to a role often associated with far more seasoned singers. Only weeks later, she jumped in at the Salzburg Whitsun Festival, portraying Minerva, Nutrice, and Juno in Hotel Metamorphosis, once again confirming her exceptional artistry.
Praised for her commanding stage presence and distinctive vocal depth, Karyazina has rapidly established herself as one of the most compelling young voices on today’s opera stage – a recognition now formally sealed with the title “Newcomer of the Year.”
