CSAM is thrilled to announce the addition of Canadian soprano Olivia Smith to the roster! Smith is lauded for her “rich, humane soprano” (Opera Canada) and “convincing and poignant” portrayals (Boston Musical Intelligencer). Currently in her second year of San Francisco Opera’s prestigious Adler Fellowship program, the young soprano performs this season as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni with Opera Philadelphia and as Micaela in San Francisco Opera’s “Carmen Encounter”. Last season in San Francisco, she made her mainstage debut as the Voice of the Falcon in Strauss’ Die Frau ohne Schatten, followed by appearances as First Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte and the role of Chrisann Brennan in Mason Bates and Mark Campbell’s The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs.

An alumna of the Merola Opera Program and the Curtis Institute of Music, Smith has performed as Marguerite (Faust), The Governess (Turn of the Screw), Leila (Les pêcheurs de perles), and Margarita Xirgu (Ainadamar). Additional roles include Cathleen in Vaughan Williams’ Riders to the Sea, First Witch in Dido and Aeneas, and Mrs. Gobineau in Menotti’s The Medium.

Olivia Smith has received recognition from Houston Grand Opera’s Eleanor McCollum Competition, where she received both the Ana María Martínez Encouragement Award and the Online Viewers’ Choice Award. She was the First Place Winner in the Opera Grand Rapids VanderLaan Prize Competition and received an encouragement grant from the George and Nora London Foundation for Singers.
