On October 2, Deutsche Grammophon releases Rolando Villazón’s newest album, “Serenata Latina”. Performed alongside harpist Xavier de Maistre, the album features a program of intimate arrangements of Latin American songs for tenor and harp.
“This album is a very special serenata,” says Rolando. “[It’s] a collection of beautiful traditional folk and art songs from Latin America, a collection of poetry and music of my big homeland.” The songs express themes of nature, love, mourning, joy, and more. The composers, which include Alberto Ginastera, Carlos Guastavino, and Antonio Estévez, “drank from the European tradition…but remain rooted in the soil of [the Latin American] rich, colorful, sometimes melancholic yet always resilient culture.”
