The Met begins the New Year with a vital new production of one of opera’s most enduringly powerful works, Bizet's Carmen. Piotr Beczała as Carmen’s troubled lover Don José shares the stage with young mezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmetshina as Carmen, with Angel Blue as Micaëla, and with bass-baritone Kyle Ketelsen as Escamillo. Daniele Rustioni conducts Bizet’s heart-pounding score and acclaimed English director Carrie Cracknell makes her Met debut.
