Matthias Goerne: Mendelssohn with the Gewandhausorchester

Baritone Matthias Goerne joins Andris Nelsons, the Gewandhausorchester, and MDR-Rundfunkchor for an all-Mendelssohn program: Erde, Hölle und Himmel ("Christus"), Psalm 42 "Wie der Hirsch schreit", and Die erste Walpurgisnacht.​ Goerne shares the stage with soprano Nikola Hillebrand, alto Catriona Morison, tenor Werner Güra, and bass Alexander Grassauer.​ As part of »Tacheles – Jahr der Jüdischen Kultur in Sachsen 2026«, this concert honors Mendelssohn, grandson of philosopher Moses Mendelssohn, who bridged Jewish-German worlds despite his Christian upbringing. The program is performed at two concerts in Gewandhaus in Leipzig on February 6 and 8.

Amin Ahangaran: Eugene Onegin at the Paris Opera

The bass Amin Ahangaran takes the role of Zaretsky in a new production of Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin at the Paris Opera. Actor and director Ralph Fiennes makes his opera-directing debut with a visually restrained staging that focuses on the psychological and emotional core of Pushkin’s story while the performances are led under the baton of Semyon Bychkov. The cast includes Boris Pinkhasovich as Eugene Onegin, Ruzan Mantashyan as Tatyana, Bogdan Volkov as Lensky, Marvic Monreal as Olga, and Alexander Tsymbalyuk as Prince Gremin. The opera runs at the Palais Garnier on January 23, 26, 29 and February 1, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24 and 27.

Regula Mühlemann reunites with the La Folia Barockorchester to present Cleopatra – Baroque Arias in Liepaja, Antwerp, Essen and Zurich. The programm features Baroque arias from the collaboration album of La Folia Barockorchester and Regula Mühlemann, Cleopatra – Baroque Arias (2017), for which the soloist received the Opus Klassik Award as Newcomer of the Year in 2018. Along with famous arias by Georg Frideric Handel and Johann Adolf Hasse, the program will feature valuable gems from the works of Alessandro Scarlatti, Giovanni Legrenzi, and Antonio Vivaldi.
