Piotr Beczała: Carmen at the Metropolitan Opera in New York

The Met begins the New Year with a vital new production of one of opera’s most enduringly powerful works, Bizet's Carmen. Piotr Beczała as Carmen’s troubled lover Don José shares the stage with young mezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmetshina as Carmen, with Angel Blue as Micaëla, and with bass-baritone Kyle Ketelsen as Escamillo. Daniele Rustioni conducts Bizet’s heart-pounding score and acclaimed English director Carrie Cracknell makes her Met debut. Piotr Beczała's performances are on December 31 and on January 3, 5, 9, 12, 16, 19, 23 and on 27, 2024.

Formidable tenor Omar Mancini is one of the promising young voices of his generation. The tenor made his opera debut as the solo tenor in the Petite Messe Solennelle by Rossini as part of the 150th anniversary of the composer’s death in 2018. He was awarded in numerous competitions (including winning first prize in the Antonio Falconio Summer Edition & Salvatore Licitra opera singing competition) and is a current ensemble member at Grand Théâtre de Genève.
