Filipe Manu
New Zealand-raised tenor of Tongan heritage Filipe Manu is rapidly establishing himself as one of the most compelling tenors of his generation. In 2024, he became the first singer from the Pacific and Australasia to win the prestigious Tenor Viñas International Singing Competition. A graduate of the esteemed Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Manu has made significant debuts at Covent Garden, Wiener Staatsoper, Opéra National de Paris, and the Staatsoper Hamburg.
The 2025/26 season brings a new wave of international engagements, including Manu’s eagerly anticipated debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona as Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore). He returns to the Wiener Staatsoper as Ferrando (Così fan tutte) and travels with the company for his house debut at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo in the same role. Manu also makes a highly awaited return to Opera Australia, making his role debut as Alfredo in La traviata in Melbourne, Regent Theatre. On the concert stage, he rejoins the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra for his first-ever performances of Rossini's Stabat Mater.
