Biography

Rising countertenor Cameron Shahbazi, praised for his “full, voluminous” voice and “personal and beautiful” timbre (De Trouw), is celebrated for his acclaimed interpretations of both baroque and contemporary music. In 2023, he was awarded the prestigious Opus Klassik Award in the ‘Innovative Concert of the Year’ category for his brainchild entitled “Woman.Life.Freedom.”, a benefit concert at Oper Frankfurt produced in support of human rights in Iran.

Cameron Shahbazi: Tri Sestri at the Salzburg Festival

Countertenor Cameron Shahbazi makes his Salzburg Festival debut as Mascha in Peter Eötvös’s Tri Sestri, joined by Dennis Orellana as Irina, Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen as Olga, Kangmin Justin Kim as Natascha, and Mikołaj Trąbka as Tusenbach. The production, staged by Evgeny Titov and conducted by Maxime Pascal with Klangforum Wien, highlights a stellar ensemble cast in one of contemporary opera’s most compelling works. Performances take place at the Felsenreitschule on August 8, 12, 21, and 24, 2025.

Cameron Shahbazi: Classical Pride with the London Symphony Orchestra

On July 4 countertenor Cameron Shahbazi joins the London Symphony Orchestra and conductor Oliver Zeffman for the concert titled “Voices of joy and sorry” under the auspices of Classical Pride. Shahbazi sings George Benjamin’s Dream of the Song, mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton performs a new commission by US composer Jake Heggie, as well as the iconic gay anthem Over the Rainbow from The Wizard of Oz. Additionally the orchestra performs Jennifer Higdon’s blue cathedral, Saint-Saëns’ rambunctious Bacchanale, and the evening finishes with Tchaikovsky’s heart-rending and much-loved Swan Lake Suite.

Cameron Shahbazi: Debut at Gran Teatre del Liceu

Counter tenor Cameron Shahbazi makes his anticipated house debut at Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona as Tolomeo in Handel’s Giulio Cesare. The production by Calixto Bieto is lead under the musical direction of William Christie. Shahbazi shares the stage with Xavier Sabata in the title role, Julie Fuchs as Cleopatra and Helen Charlston as Sesto. The opera can be experienced on May 25, 28, 31 and June 3, 5 and 7.
