Emily D’Angelo receives the Glenn Gould Protégé Prize

Canadian mezzo-soprano Emily D’Angelo was awarded the prestigious Glenn Gould Protégé Prize, personally selected by this year’s Laureate, Sir Elton John, during a gala celebration in Toronto honouring his extraordinary artistic and humanitarian legacy.

Widely recognised as one of the most compelling vocal artists of her generation, D’Angelo captivated audiences with performances of Wild Mountain Thyme and I Know the Truth from Aida, receiving a standing ovation. She also joined the Toronto Children’s Chorus for a moving rendition of Can You Feel the Love Tonight. In presenting the award, Elton John praised her artistry, saying: “I know a star when I see one… you are an exceptional artist and singer.”

The Glenn Gould Protégé Prize recognises outstanding young artists of exceptional promise, highlighting the importance of mentorship and artistic inspiration across generations.
