Emily D’Angelo wins Gramophone Concept Album Award 2022
Mezzo-Soprano Emily D’Angelo has received the Gramophone Award 2022 in the category Concept Album for her debut album enargeia (Deutsche Grammophon). The award ceremony took place in London on 4th October 2022.
Gramophone Magazine states that the album ‘demonstrates with impressive regularity D’Angelo’s ability to enter into the heart of the music’s matter, unleashing its innate spirit’ and praises the singers voice with its’ ‘incredible range, depth and power at the lower end combined with crystalline clarity up top, with lovely weight, poise and balance’. For her debut album Emily D’Angelo chose music from the 12th and 21st century by the four composers Hildegard von Bingen, Hildur Guðnadóttir, Missy Mazzoli and Sarah Kirkland Snider.
enargeia was recorded in collaboration with das Freie Orchester Berlin and conductor Jarkko Riihimäki in Berlin between December 2020 and March 2021.
