Biography

French mezzo-soprano Gaëlle Arquez is one of the most prominent stars of the opera world. After graduating from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, the young mezzo-soprano made her debut at Opéra National de Paris in Michael Haneke’s production of Don Giovanni (Zerlina) under the direction of Philippe Jordan. Since then, Arquez has established herself on the international stage, performing in leading opera houses worldwide such as the Metropolitan Opera, the Teatro alla Scala, the Opéra National de Paris, London’s Royal Opera House, the Berlin State Opera, Theater an der Wien and the Vienna State Opera. Celebrated early in her career with a 1st prize at the Wigmore Hall/Independent Opera Fellowship competition and a nomination for “Révélation Lyrique” at the Victoires de la Musique, she released her acclaimed debut album “Ardente Flamme” on Deutsche Grammophon in 2017.

Gaëlle Arquez: Carmen and Faust et Hélène in concert

Gaëlle Arquez appears in the concert series titled Grands airs de Carmen with the Orchestre National de France under the baton of Dalia Stasevska. The Program is built around key scenes from Bizet’s Carmen and Lili Boulanger’s Faust et Hélène. Arquez takes on the two title roles of Carmen and Hélène and is joined on stage by Thomas Bettinger as Faust / Don José and Nicolas Cavallier as Mephistopheles / Escamillo. The concerts take place on May 21 and 22 at the Maison de la Radio et de la Musique in Paris.

Gaëlle Arquez: World premiere in Liège

Gaëlle Arquez joins the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège and conductor Lionel Bringuier for the world premiere of Manfred Trojahn’s Je suis l’idée maîtresse for mezzo-soprano and orchestra. The programme also features Tchaikovsky’s deeply moving Symphony No. 6. The concerts take place at the Salle Philharmonique in Liège on 18 April and at the Kölner Philharmonie on 19 April.
