The Met begins the New Year with a vital new production of one of opera’s most enduringly powerful works, Bizet’s Carmen. Piotr Beczała as Carmen’s troubled lover Don José shares the stage with young mezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmetshina as Carmen, with Angel Blue as Micaëla, and with bass-baritone Kyle Ketelsen as Escamillo. Daniele Rustioni conducts Bizet’s heart-pounding score and acclaimed English director Carrie Cracknell makes her Met debut. Piotr Beczała’s performances are on December 31 and on January 3, 5, 9, 12, 16, 19, 23 and on 27, 2024.
