Matthias Goerne: Mendelssohn with the Gewandhausorchester

Baritone Matthias Goerne joins Andris Nelsons, the Gewandhausorchester, and MDR-Rundfunkchor for an all-Mendelssohn program: Erde, Hölle und Himmel ("Christus"), Psalm 42 "Wie der Hirsch schreit", and Die erste Walpurgisnacht. Goerne shares the stage with soprano Nikola Hillebrand, alto Catriona Morison, tenor Werner Güra, and bass Alexander Grassauer. As part of »Tacheles – Jahr der Jüdischen Kultur in Sachsen 2026«, this concert honors Mendelssohn, grandson of philosopher Moses Mendelssohn, who bridged Jewish-German worlds despite his Christian upbringing. The program is performed at two concerts in Gewandhaus in Leipzig on February 6 and 8.
