Amin Ahangaran, praised as a “full-bodied and firm bass” with a “beautiful nocturnal colour” (Opera Libera) is “indeed one of the most charming voices of his generation” (OPERA Charm Magazine). An alumnus of the Accademia del Teatro del Maggio Musicale in Florence and former member of the International Opera Studio (IOS) in Zurich, he is currently a member of the opera troupe of Opéra de Paris.

An alumnus of the Accademia del Teatro del Maggio Musicale in Florence and former member of the International Opera Studio (IOS) in Zurich, he is currently a member of the opera troupe of Opéra de Paris.
His artistic training began in 2016 in his hometown of Tehran and continued in Austria, where he made his operatic debut as Sarastro in The Magic Flute. He was seen in several productions and concerts as a soloist in the Graz region. A winner of the scholarship of the 2018 American Institute of Music Studies (AIMS) and Academia Belcanto, Ahangaran participated in many prominent masterclasses. In summer 2021, the bass returned to Austria to receive another scholarship from AIMS.
In the highly anticipated 2024-25 season, Amin Ahangaran begins his tenure as an ensemble member of Opéra de Paris, where he sees performances as Wagner in Tobias Kratzer’s production of Faust under the baton of Emmanuel Villaume as well as performances as Conte Ceprano in Verdi’s Rigoletto staged by Claus Guth under the baton of Andrea Battistoni. Later in the season, Ahangaran takes upon the roles of Un Berger and Le Médecin in Wajdi Mouawad’s new production of Pelléas et Mélisande under the baton of Antonello Manacorda. Towards the end of the season the bass sings Un Député flamand in Krzysztof Warlikowski’s production of Don Carlos conducted by Simone Young.
Last season, as a member of the Opera Studio of the Zürich Opera House, he saw performances in La Rondine as Rabonnier and Macbeth as Medico. He embodied the role of Theseus in A Midsummer Night’s Dream conducted by Duncan Ward and staged by Rainer Holzapfel. He could be heard as the Mandarin in Puccini’s masterpiece, Turandot, and at the end of the season the young bass sang the role of Dumas in a concert performance of Andrea Chénier. Beyond the stage of Zurich, he performed the role of Don Basilio in Schaffhausen’s production of Il barbiere di Siviglia. In the Summer of 2024 Ahangaran participated in The Salzburg Young Singers Project and took part in the new production of Prokofiev’s The Gambler.
In 2020-2023 Ahangaran appeared as Usciere in Rigoletto with maestro Riccardo Frizza, L’ispettore in Siberia with Gianandrea Noseda, Lakai in Ariadne auf Naxos with Daniele Gatti and Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy with Manfred Honeck at Teatro del Maggio Musicale. He performed in Augusto Borgioli’s Messa funebre a tre voci in Prato, and in numerous concerts in historic sights of Tuscany. At the Zurich Opera House, he was heard as a soloist in the Opening Festival Gala Performance. Amin Ahangaran performed the roles of Un Commissionario in La traviata with maestro Francesco Ivan Ciampa, Zaretsky and Rotniy in Eugene Onegin with Gianandrea Noseda, Basso in Jakob Lenz with Adrian Kelly and in the final IOS gala concert. In addition to these roles, he covered Sarastro, Colline, Fafner, Timur and Nerbulone.
Highlights of 2022 include the third prize, audience award and the Rapallo Opera Festival award from “CLIP” competition in Portofino. He was awarded the third prize in the competition “Riccardo Zandonai” in Riva del Garda and performed as a finalist in the competition “Voci Verdiane” in Busetto.
