Thomas Hampson performs the role of Bishop Edvard Vergérus in Mikael Karlsson and Royce Vavrek's Fanny and Alexander at La Monnaie in Brussels, with performances on December 1, 3, 5, 8, 10, 13, 15, 17, and 19, 2024. This world premiere, based on Ingmar Bergman's film, features conductor Ariane Matiakh and director Ivo van Hove in a production that combines orchestral music with electronic elements. The new opera marks La Monnaie's first staging of this adaptation of Bergman's semi-autobiographical masterpiece.

Olivia Smith: Welcome to CSAM!

CSAM is thrilled to announce the addition of Canadian soprano Olivia Smith to the roster! Smith is lauded for her “rich, humane soprano” (Opera Canada) and “convincing and poignant” portrayals (Boston Musical Intelligencer). Currently in her second year of San Francisco Opera’s prestigious Adler Fellowship program, the young soprano performs this season as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni with Opera Philadelphia and as Micaela in San Francisco Opera’s “Carmen Encounter”. Last season in San Francisco, she made her mainstage debut as the Voice of the Falcon in Strauss’ Die Frau ohne Schatten, followed by appearances as First Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte and the role of Chrisann Brennan in Mason Bates and Mark Campbell’s The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs.
