Biography

American soprano Kathryn Lewek is a born communicator. Combining charismatic stage presence with a voice of sumptuous range, crystalline purity, and rich emotional power, she headlines major productions at the foremost opera houses and festivals worldwide, from New York’s Metropolitan Opera to Austria’s Salzburg Festival. Lauded in an increasing array of leading lyric and dramatic coloratura roles, including Mozart’s Queen of the Night, the signature role with which she has repeatedly broken records, Lewek also wins accolades for her orchestral collaborations and sensitive interpretations of contemporary art song. As the New York Times recognizes, “singing like Lewek’s is what the magic of opera is all about.”

Kathryn Lewek, Gaëlle Arquez: Idomeneo in Brussels

Kathryn Lewek makes her role debut as Elettra, opposite Gaëlle Arquez as Idamante in Calixto Bieito’s new production of Idomeneo at La Monnaie. Arquez and Lewek join the cast of Joshua Stewart in the title role and Shira Patchornik as Ilia led by Maestro Enrico Onofri. The production premieres on March 10, 2026 with further shows on March 12, 14, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28.

Sopranos Emily Pogorelc (Pamina) and Kathryn Lewek (Queen of the Night), together with baritone Theodore Platt (role debut as Papageno) star in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte at the Mozartwoche 2026 in Salzburg. The production is directed by Rolando Villazón and conducted by Roberto González-Monjas, with the Mozarteumorchester Salzburg and Philharmonia Chor Wien, bringing Mozart’s beloved opera to the stage at the Haus für Mozart. Performances take place on January 23, 27, and 30, and February 1, 2026.
