Biography

American soprano Kathryn Lewek is a born communicator. Combining charismatic stage presence with a voice of sumptuous range, crystalline purity, and rich emotional power, she headlines major productions at the foremost opera houses and festivals worldwide, from New York’s Metropolitan Opera to Austria’s Salzburg Festival. Lauded in an increasingly diverse array of leading lyric soprano and dramatic coloratura roles—including Mozart’s Queen of the Night, the signature role with which she has repeatedly broken records—Lewek also wins accolades for her orchestral collaborations and sensitive interpretations of contemporary music. As the New York Times recognizes, “singing like Lewek’s is what the magic of opera is all about.”

Kathryn Lewek: House Debut in Toronto with La Traviata

This autumn, Kathryn Lewek makes her Canadian Opera Company debut as Violetta Valéry in Verdi's beloved La traviata. Lewek takes on one of opera's most iconic soprano roles in the acclaimed production directed by Arin Arbus, with Paolo Carignani conducting. Performances take place on 18 & 26 September and 4, 7, 13, 15 & 17 October 2026 at Toronto's Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts.

Javier Camarena, Emily Pogorelc, Kathryn Lewek, Theodore Platt, Rolando Villazon: The Magic Flute at Santander Festival

Javier Camarena as Tamino, Kathryn Lewek as the Queen of the Night, Theodore Platt as Papageno, and Emily Pogorelc as Pamina star in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) at the 75th Festival Internacional de Santander. The new production is directed by Rolando Villazón and conducted by David Afkham, with performances on 3 and 5 August 2026 at the Palacio de Festivales de Cantabria.

Kathryn Lewek: Entführung aus dem Serail at Ravinia Festival

Kathryn Lewek returns to one of Mozart’s most demanding soprano roles, Konstanze in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, at the Ravinia Festival on July 16 and 18. Lewek is joined by Miles Mykkanen (Belmonte), Sarah Dufresne (Blonde) for the semi-staged performances conducted by James Conlon and directed by Harry Silverstein and featuring the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus.
