Biography

Spanish soprano Serena Sáenz has been praised for her “musicality, good taste in ornamentation and luminous high notes with a good arsenal of bel canto resources” (Scherzo).

She received three awards at Operalia 2022 in Riga: Second Prize in the Plácido Domingo World Opera Competition, the Pepita Embil Zarzuela Prize and the Birgit Nilsson Prize. Sáenz, despite her youth, is a frequent guest at many of the world’s most renowned opera houses.

In 2021 she won the First Prize and the Audience Award at the Montserrat Caballé International Singing Competition, the first Spaniard to win these awards. She also received multiple awards at the Paris Opera Competition, as well as at the Francesc Viñas International Competition.

Opera Actual 2023 Award to the most promising young artist and Opera XXI Award to the best young singer, that same year.

Serena Sáenz: Debut album BIRDS released

The Spanish soprano Serena Sáenz releases her debut album BIRDS in cooperation with EuroArts. The album, recorded with the Transylvania State Philharmonic Orchestra, explores the connection between the lyrical coloratura soprano voice and the fascinating world of songbirds. It showcases a diverse linguistic spectrum, offering insights into how composers from various traditions—Russian, German, English, French, and Spanish—incorporated birdsong into their compositions. The album is released on March 21 on Spotify, Apple Music and other platforms.

Serena Sáenz: Opera for Peace at the Paris Eiffel Tower

On March 17, soprano Serena Saénz stars at a private event with Opera for Peace at the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The porgram consists of a variety of arias and songs from Verdi's Rigoletto, Donizetti's La Fille du Régiment and Bernstein's Westside Story.

Serena Sáenz: Queen of the night at the Vienna State Opera

Soprano Serena Saénz takes the role of Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte at the Vienna State Opera. The new production by Barbora Horáková is lead under the baton of Bertrand de Billy. Saenz is joined on stage by Slávka Zámečníková as Pamina, Julian Pregardien as Tamino and Georg Zeppenfeld as Sarastro. The opera can be experienced on January 27, 30 and February 1, 4, 7, 10.
