Biography

Spanish soprano Serena Sáenz has been praised for her “musicality, good taste in ornamentation and luminous high notes with a good arsenal of bel canto resources” (Scherzo).

She received three awards at Operalia 2022 in Riga: Second Prize in the Plácido Domingo World Opera Competition, the Pepita Embil Zarzuela Prize and the Birgit Nilsson Prize. Despite her young age, Sáenz is a frequent guest at many of the world’s most renowned opera houses.

In 2021 she won the First Prize and the Audience Award at the Montserrat Caballé International Singing Competition, the first Spaniard to win these awards. She also received multiple awards at the Paris Opera Competition, as well as at the Francesc Viñas International Competition. Opera Actual 2023 Award to the most promising young artist and Opera XXI Award to the best young singer, that same year.

Serena Senz: Lied Festival in Barcelona

Under the auspices of the Lied Festival Victoria de los Ángeles soprano Serena Sáenz sings a recital together with pianist Ruben Fernández Aguirre on May 11 in L'Illa Auditorium - Sala Victoria de los Ángeles, Barcelona. Sáenz and Aguirre present a program consisting of a variety of songs and arias by Enric Granados, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Nikolai Rimski-Korsakov among others.

Serena Saénz: Queen of the night at the Vienna State Opera

Soprano Serena Saénz returns to the Vienna State Opera in the revival of Barbora Horákovás production of die Zauberflöte under the baton of Adam Fischer. Once again Serena Sáenz takes the role of Queen of the Night and is joined on stage by Maria Nazarova as Pamina, Cyrille Dubois as Tamino and Franz-Josef Selig as Sarastro. The opera can be experienced on April 25 and 28 and May 2 and 5.
